Homeschool Portfolio Evaluations
Supportive, Simple, and Stress-Free
Homeschool evaluations are an important part of your child’s educational journey — but they don’t have to feel overwhelming. At Coffman Learning Studio, evaluations are completed in a calm, supportive way that helps families feel confident, prepared, and encouraged.
Florida Homeschool Evaluation Requirements
In Florida, homeschool families are required to complete an annual educational evaluation to demonstrate student progress.
One approved option is an evaluation completed by a Florida-certified teacher. This evaluation reviews your child’s work over time and confirms that educational progress is being made.
Portfolio evaluations focus on:
Samples of student work
Reading, writing, and math progress
Overall academic growth
Evidence of learning throughout the year
Evaluations are not pass or fail and are not designed to compare children to one another. They simply document progress and continued learning.
Certified Teacher Evaluations
I am a Florida-certified educator and provide homeschool portfolio evaluations for families throughout Florida. I have worked with homeschool families across multiple counties, including Broward, Duval, Flagler, Orange, Palm Beach, Seminole, St. Johns, and others.
Many states require homeschool evaluations to be completed by a certified teacher. If you are homeschooling outside of Florida and your state allows evaluations by a licensed educator, I am happy to discuss whether I can support your family.
Families are encouraged to reach out with questions about eligibility or documentation requirements.
What is Included
Each evaluation includes:
Review of student work samples
Discussion of academic progress
Observation of reading, writing, and math development
Completion of required evaluation documentation
Guidance or feedback if requested
Evaluations are supportive and child-friendly. Students are never pressured or tested during the process.
The Evaluation Process
Step 1: Schedule Your Evaluation
Contact us to request an evaluation appointment.
Step 2: Gather Student Work
Provide samples from the beginning, middle, and end of the year, such as writing, math, reading logs, or projects. Digital portfolios are welcome.
Step 3: Meet Virtually
We meet virtually to review your child’s work, discuss progress, and allow your child to optionally share something they’ve been learning.
Step 4: Documentation Completed
After the evaluation, required paperwork is completed and provided to your family for submission to your district, typically within a few hours to 1 business day.
Families Often Ask
My child is behind. Can we still do an evaluation?
Yes. Evaluations focus on progress, not comparison. Every child learns at their own pace, and growth looks different for every student.
We don’t have perfect portfolios. Is that okay?
Absolutely. Evaluations are meant to reflect learning over time, not perfection. If you feel something is missing, please reach out.
This feels overwhelming. Can you help us prepare?
Yes. Families are welcome to reach out for guidance before their scheduled evaluation if they need help organizing materials or understanding expectations.
My Approach
Homeschool evaluations are one of my favorite parts of working with families. Many parents feel anxious about the process, and my goal is to make it feel approachable and encouraging.
I believe evaluations should:
Be calm and supportive
Honor and celebrate each child’s unique learning journey
Provide reassurance to families
Focus on growth, not pressure
Families often leave feeling relieved and confident about their child’s progress.
